Just a quick post about nursing. I need some advice.
Because I've always been pretty flat chested, all my shirts are very tight and higher at the neck. So, I've been struggling to find the right shirts to nurse in. Heh .... Might as well just pull up the whole shirt from the bottom. Someone said that's better than pulling it down and exposing the top of your chest and one boob. Hmm...I don't know what's better. you either show half your back and all of your stomach, or one boob. Grrr...living in Japan...
When I'm outside I make sure I sit down when nursing (even when I don't have to), and I put a thin blanket or towel over my shoulder. It just gets sooo hot for me and for Brian. He starts sweating and I feel so bad for him.
What would you suggest I do?? Maybe go to a bathroom every time I nurse???
i posted on mercy's blog in response to this!
ReplyDeleteI went to the bathroom a couple times cause ppl I was with made me feel uncomfortable, but otherwise I`d nurse wherever.
ReplyDeleteTwo layers of shirts cover best but it`s hot so..If you can get those vests that everyone wears over T-shirts for styles sake, I think that`d work great with the pull-up-shirt-from-bottom. Or a really lose shirt.
Japan is actually pretty decent about nursing in public, in malls and big parks there are always nursing rooms. The ones that stare are perverts and not parents themselves so are just horny or curious(their prob if they get creeped out), most are usually too embarrassed to look your way. By and by, you`ll realize nursing is a normal way of things are done in Japan and its a totally normal topic among parents, husbands even.
Last month or so I went to the barber to get my yearly (or longer) hair cut and when he found I had 3 kids, which was fairly soon, he straight away asked about weaning and how he and his wife were having a hard time with their 2 year old.
Also, in the summer I`d put a wet, wrung out handkerchief between where me and baby touched to keep cooler. You can put it wet in a container and straight into your bag.
OOh yes, I tried the wet cloth the other day and it works wonders. I also put it over his head when I'm walking around outside. He looks like a little workman. It's so cute!
ReplyDeleteSeiko, I can't find your comment. :( Which post did you comment on?
ReplyDeletewe have those nursing tops, i have found my wardrobe consists entirely of 3 nursting tanktops. They un snap at the front top and you just flap it down, in cold weather you throw on a cardigan/button up/zipper and it works really well. You do usually find nursing rooms in shops and you can also usually time it so that you feed in the car before leaving, then on the way back before going home. Also in nature wide open spaces it's usually not so bad, it's only when you're in close quarters where it can get abit awkward, but haven't found myself in that yet aside from plane...:D
ReplyDeletenursing bras I have 3 when I want tow ear a dress with a plunging neckline/straps that you can pull down. It's alot easier than pulling up shirt imo.
Yes nursing in public sux ... not just in Japan ne ... I hope you find something you are comfy with soon! I gotta say tho ... I miss Japan and all the junyushitsu's they have ... there is no such thing here!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely NOT for going 'from under' ... so I rebought all my shirts for this summer ... cause NONE of my last year shirts fit my boobs cause they got so big. So I made sure they were all tops I could nurse from easily. You should check out nursing tanks ... OH SO convenient dayo! And a lot of them have the bra built in so it takes off one extra layer and it feels much better.
Try to find one of these: Bebe au Lait & Hooter Hiders or sew it yourself if you can!
ReplyDeleteI'm really lucky because in Hiroshima all the big malls have these nice nursing rooms (like jewel said, junyushitsu) with couches and curtains and hot water machines for mums to nurse. It's even a bit dark so that it's more comfy for the baby or something.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what I would do, but I'm thinking of just using my baby sling or buying one of those Hooter Hiders that I just wrap around the top so people won't see my boobies hanging out. I don't have so many low cut shirts, but I use those a lot now since I have to nurse my little one every day. I wish I had more low cut shirts.
i do both in PUBLIC on trains, in parks, at ekis …. hahahah … usually i pull out from the top and toss a towel on the top part of my breast, or if my shirts (usually in winter) aren’t easy to pull my tits out of from the top i go from under, and then the shirt covers the top part of my breast and the baby covers the belly … i’m pretty uninhibited though, i live in Tokyo they’ve seen it all so good riddance. I think if you don’t wanna see me feed my hungry baby, look the other way, i can get away with that cuz its tokyo, but other places maybe no… If it bothers you though i would say get one of those nursing covers .. not sure what they are called, but you wrap it around you and baby as you feed in public …
ReplyDeleteI posted this on mercy's
and just FYI i have only had ONE person over the last year and a half stare at me while i was breast feeding in public, and it was in yoyogi park (go figure) and he was a perv ... otherwise i have breast feed on trains ... pervs always there, no problem ... sometimes my kids wld pull my clothes or blankets ect, that was covering my body parts, right off ... fail ... so i just was like wtv keep feeding, once one of them stopped feeding and my nipple was all exposed, on the train and she started crying and trowing her head back, so my FULL boob was exposed for a good min or so .. NOBODY looked ... and it was on the JR line ..
ReplyDeleteJapanese are pretty polite and mind their own business, its really more about how you are comfortable with in public or no
sometimes i breast feed and chase my older one in malls at the same time .. what are you gonna do eh? Again no one ever "looked"
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, I like that story about your WHOLE boob being exposed in the train!! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! All good advice and good to know. I'm not the one that cares too much about exposing breasts. I only ask this because a few people mentioned to me how it's not so appropriate to nurse in public. But, oh well...if they don't like it, (like Seiko said), they don't have to look. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll look into one of those Hooter Hiders too. :)
