2 Months Old!!

2nd Month

Height: 56cm (1st month: 51cm)
Weight: 4400g (1st month: 3360g)

Brian is incredibly strong for his age. Very good Gross Motor Skills (physical movement). When on his stomach he lifts his head and turns it from side to side to look around. He can also flip over onto his back in this position by jerking his head in which ever direction (right or left) and letting the weight of his head turn him on his back. Brilliant! He likes being held upward, over the shoulder and can lift his head perfectly. I always forget that he’s just 2 months old. From what textbooks and the internet say, his developmental growth is as a 3 month old. He does pretty much everything that a 3 month old would/should do besides grasping a rattle, and a few others.

His Language and Social Skills aren’t as advanced, but are great, but only with me. Haha! He “talks” to me and smiles when smiled to. He turns his head to see me and talk with me. But when other people try and talk with him, he seems to ignore them. Only certain people can entertain him and get him to smile, look around, etc.
Josh and I have already figured out which cries mean what. There’s a hungry cry, angry cry, scared cry, and tired cry. Of course, there are times when we don’t know what he wants…but I think those are the times when he himself doesn’t know what he wants.

He’s very into “Mommy”. When someone else carries him and tries to get his attention Brian will stare intently at me, as if to say, “Don’t go anywhere too far, I can’t handle being away from you too long.” I guess it’s because I’m the only one with him all day. (It’s not quite like how I grew up, where many people were with you –teachers, caretakers, and many more students and peers. You naturally get used to being with and around many people.)

I believe he’s doing a good job at adjusting to this world. He’s gotten much more relaxed this month. I’ve also been able to understand what he wants and have the energy to act quickly before he can freak out. Only when he gets really tired is when he’ll cry and cry till the next nursing time (which is whenever he chooses) when he settles down and falls asleep, normally 20~40 minutes.
Brian loves being outside. It’s amazing. His first outing to the beach was when he was 1 month ½. The next day we took him to Otaki, a river with a waterfall. He was happy the whole day taking advantage of being with Mommy all day long and not having to be put down. Since then I’ve been taking him out to restaurants, stores, and short walks around our block. He’s always very quiet and alert, looking and listening to all the sights and sounds. He’s sooo cute!

He's been sleeping better at night. Wakes up to nurse then goes back to sleep. He has this thing where he wakes up at 4 or 5am and stays awake for an hour to "play" with me. I end up going outside for a walk till the sun comes up, and then I go back to bed with him. We both start our day around 8~9AM. Let's hope it continues to get better! :)

Mothering:
I feel more confident as a mother of a newborn. All my experience of caring for my siblings when they were newborns has certainly paid off. I’ve been living in “Building B”, and during the day I am the only one in the house. Josh goes to work early, so I have been cooking and cleaning and caring for Brian alone. (Going to the bathroom with him has become a normal thing to do. Ha!)
Caring for Brian has definitely been much more inspiring and fulfilling this last month compared to the first month which was very tough. Now we laugh together, eat together, wash and hang laundry together, and spend our whole day close together. I’m happy.

Whenever I get boob shots it jst seems so massive compared to her head that it overwhelmes the shot. Those are so beautiful and tasteful! lol no pun intended, I'm sure brian thinks it's the tatiest shot ever!! haha. He's sooo cute. He's such a little tough man. Love the one with him all hanging back with Josh.

  3. Awww Jan he's growing so fast! He's almost as big as my Papoosie even though mine is almost 2 months older than yours! I guess that's what happens when the come a whole month earlier than they are supposed to!
He's also so much more developed than when Papoosie was his age ... it makes me sad just a little that my Papoosie seems to be developmentally slow because of his preemie-ness ... and that it took him 3 months to settle into a schedule whereas it only took your Brian 2, but then I stop being sad and start being thankful that he is so genki and happy and such a wonderful baby ... and of course that yours is doing so so so well!
He sounds like Papoosie! He loves being outside too!
Gosh I hope the two boys get to meet someday and become great friends! I just hope your baby doesn't get so big that he squashes my poor pooch! hehehe ... oh and I hope that your milk comes more cause you said you were worried a little about it ...
